Athletic pubalgia (sportsman groin)

What it is

Athletic pubalgia, also called sportsman's hernia, is a weakness of the posterior inguinal wall without a true sac. Although the word hernia is used for it, this is not a true hernia and there is no peritoneal sac. What is being described is a multifactorial groin pain syndrome, so more than one cause can be at work in the same groin at the same time, and the weak posterior wall is only part of the picture.
