Amyand hernia

What it is

An Amyand hernia is a hernia with the appendix in the sac. It belongs to a group of hernias named by what is in the sac or by how the sac is made: Richter's hernia, pantaloon hernia, Littre hernia, sliding hernia, Amyand hernia and Maydl hernia. It is not the same as a sliding hernia, where the viscera form part of the sac wall, for example the colon or the bladder, so that the posterior wall of an inguinal hernia can seem to include the cecum.
