Vision screening in children

What is screened, and with what

Vision screening in children is one row of the screening table, and that row answers three things at once. The test is visual acuity testing. The group is children. The timing is routine pediatric visits, so the screen is done inside the well child visit and not at a visit of its own.

The two rows beside it on the same table are worth holding, because they are what a screening item is built from:

• Depression: a screening questionnaire, the PHQ-9, in adolescents and adults, by opportunistic screening
• Autism spectrum disorder: developmental screening tools, in children, around 18 and 24 months
