Screening for type 2 diabetes mellitus
What it is
Diabetes is classified into four main categories: type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes mellitus, and specific types of diabetes. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is screened for with HbA1c or a fasting glucose. The people screened are overweight adults aged 35 to 70, and the screening is repeated every 3 years.
Causes and risk
Obesity, a history of gestational diabetes and a family history of diabetes are among the things that raise the risk of developing type 2 diabetes later, and age is weighed alongside them.
