Developmental screening for autism spectrum disorder

What it is

Autism belongs to the pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) group, and the other conditions in that class had to be ruled out to confirm the diagnosis. DSM-5 then moved the naming: both pervasive developmental disorder and Rett's syndrome were removed from DSM-5 and replaced with autistic spectrum disorder. What carries the diagnosis is persistent deficits in social communication and interaction across multiple contexts, together with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior, interest, and activities.
