Mild neurocognitive disorder
What it is
Mild neurocognitive disorder, previously called mild cognitive impairment, is the state in which a patient has three things together: 1) some symptoms of dementia; 2) normal function; 3) a normal score on MMSE. The symptoms are real but they have not crossed into dementia.
How it presents
A retired teacher of 65 may come to the psychiatric clinic with a history of being increasingly forgetful for the past 1 year, misplacing his keys and glasses and sometimes finding it difficult to remember names of distant relatives whom he does not see very often. What keeps this mild is that these problems did not interfere with his life.
