Approach to the poisoned patient

What it is

The poisoned patient is worked through in a fixed order: immediate assessment and stabilization, then laboratory assessment, then decontamination, then administration of an antidote, then elimination enhancement of the toxin, and last disposition.

The order itself is what matters. Stabilization is first and comes before any laboratory result. Decontamination comes before the antidote. Elimination enhancement of the toxin is listed as a step of its own, separate from decontamination and from the antidote. Disposition is named as the last step of the approach.
