Shared decision making
What it is
Shared decision making belongs where the evidence alone does not decide the matter. The patient is informed of the risks and benefits of the options, and the decision is made together with the patient, and with the family when they are there. It is the note set beside the tests and treatments that are controversial, or individualized, or whose benefit sits close to their risk.
