Host-directed therapy in tuberculosis
What it is
Host-directed therapy (HDT) is TB therapy that modifies specific aspects of the host-pathogen interaction and its downstream consequences. It pulls in two directions at once: augment pathogen killing, and reduce inflammation.
The goals of TB-HDTs are to improve outcomes for drug-resistant TB, to shorten treatment duration for all TB types, to improve preventative therapy, and to decrease host pathology, including for TB-IRIS and early mortality.
