Infant of a diabetic mother

What it is

IDM means newborns delivered to a mother who is a known case of diabetes mellitus, whether gestational diabetes or diabetes type 1 or 2, and whether she is on diet control, oral medication, or insulin dependent. The whole protocol exists for the anticipation and prevention of hypoglycaemia and its complication in these newborns.

Blood sugar is followed by reflo stick or sure step estimation by glucometer, and by true blood sugar estimation in the lab.

How it is diagnosed

Blood glucose should be checked at 1, 2, 3, 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 hrs.
