Keratoconus
What it is
Keratoconus is corneal thinning with protrusion. Onset is at 10-20 years, and the estimated prevalence in Oman is 5-10%.
Causes and risk
The causes are genes, eye rubbing and allergic eye disease. A family history is often present.
How it presents
The story is one of frequent change of glasses, with the glasses not giving full correction. A young man in his teens whose VA is 6/18 even when corrected with glasses fits this picture.
