Cavernous sinus thrombosis
What it is
Cavernous sinus thrombosis is a blood clot in the cavernous sinus. The usual route to it is an infection: it is described as an infection leading to a blood clot, caused by the complication of an infection in the paranasal or central face sinuses, and the cavernous sinus is then inflamed.
Causes and risk
It can follow trauma, infection, pregnancy, OCP use, or thrombophilia.
