Indications for treating chronic hepatitis B

What it is

Reading the hepatitis B markers comes before any decision to treat. HBsAg + means the patient is making hepatitis B virus; levels may be low or very high, and it can be acute or chronic. HBs Ab + means the patient is cured or had previous hepatitis B, and if it is the only marker then the patient was vaccinated. Hbe Ag + means the patient is highly infectious and actively making hepatitis B virus.
