Rinne and Weber tuning fork tests

What it is

Weber's and Rinne's tests are the bedside hearing tests. They use a 512Hz tuning fork. The Weber test is performed by placing the tuning fork over the central forehead, and the Rinne test compares conduction: a positive Rinne test means air conduction is greater than bone conduction.

Before reading the result, check the ears for cerumen impaction, since obstructing cerumen changes what the tests show.
