Insulinoma

What it is

Insulinomas are insulin-secreting pancreatic beta-cell tumors. They are one of the pancreatic endocrine tumors, alongside gastrinoma, glucagonoma and somatostatinoma.

How it presents

Typical clinical features include recurrent attacks of symptomatic hypoglycemia in individuals without diabetes, and weight gain. Palpitation, tremor and blurred vision that are aggravated by playing tennis and relieved by eating carry the same meaning.

Whipple triad holds the features together: a low blood glucose level, signs or symptoms consistent with hypoglycemia, and relief of symptoms when blood glucose increases after treatment.
