Tinea corporis
What it is
Tinea corporis is one of the several distinct clinical entities of dermatophytosis, the infection also known as ringworm or tinea, which is limited to the stratum corneum, hair and nail. The entities are named by the site of involvement, and the site here is the trunk and extremities.
How it presents
The lesion is a well demarcated, erythematous annular plaque with central clearing and a scaly border. Itching is mild, and there may be no other symptoms, so it is often left for weeks before it is looked at.
