Pretest probability of coronary artery disease

What it is

Pretest probability of coronary artery disease is fixed before any test is ordered. The patient is placed at Low, Intermediate or High, and that answer decides which test comes next. It is built from three things: the kind of symptom, the sex, and the age.

Low (<10%):

• Asymptomatic people of all ages
• Atypical chest pain in women age <50

Intermediate (20%-80%):

• Atypical angina in men of all ages
• Atypical angina in women age >=50
• Typical angina in women age 30-50

High (>90%):

• Typical angina in men age >=40
• Typical angina in women age >=60
